There are estimates that say that an attack against Iran will most likely occur by April 6th – or Good Friday. The plans for the attack are all in place. Russia, apparently is sounding the alarm [link]. Cheney’s office has asked Stratcom – United States Strategic Command – to
draw up a contingency plan to be employed in response to another 9/11-type terrorist attack on the United States. The plan includes a large-scale air assault on Iran employing both conventional and tactical nuclear weapons. Within Iran there are more than 450 major strategic targets, including numerous suspected nuclear-weapons-program development sites. Many of the targets are hardened or are deep underground and could not be taken out by conventional weapons, hence the nuclear option. As in the case of Iraq, the response is not conditional on Iran actually being involved in the act of terrorism directed against the United States. [link]
But who will die if Iran is bombed? Hundreds of thousands will die, including children, including US soldiers, including many in the neighboring countries should the attack be nuclear which is most likely the case. The problem is not one of diplomacy – it is that there is a trigger happy president who cannot wait to push that nuclear button, as he cheered and pushed by his neoconservative clique and, of course, by the belligerent Israeli administration.
This is not an easy choice and we all need to wake up and smell the stench of approaching death and horror.

خبر جديد هذا الأسبوع فى جريدة الأهالى يقول أن هناك ضحيتان جديدتان للتعذيب فى مصر وصلة, ولم تتم فى قسم للشرطة كما هو معتاد وإنما فى بيوت الناس وهى نائمة .
الحالة الأولى بالذات تدل على درجة عالية من السادية, فقد فوجيء فكرى محمد عباس وهو يعمل مبلط إيشانى ويسكن فى شارع مجمع المدارس بمنطقة بشتيل البلد, بكسر باب شقته ودخل عليه اكثر من20 جنديا من رجال الامن التابعين لقسم شرطة الوراق وعندما هرع لمعرفة مايحدث انقض عليه رجال الامن وألقوه على الارض وقيدوه من يديه وراء ظهره وطلبوا منه أن يخرج قطعة الحشيش اللى معاه.
وعندما قال أنه لا يعلم شىء عنها توجه ثلاثة منهم الى غرفة نوم أولاده وكانت بها زوجته حنان عزت محمد وابنته رحمة عمرها 14 عاما, واغلقوا باب الغرفة على بنتى ومراتى واخذوا يضربونهما بالعصى التى كانت بحوزتهم وباحذيتهم. وقد قالت رحمة فيما بعد أنهم جردوها هى وأمها من ملابسهن وضربوهن ثم بعد ذلك اخذونهن الى الحمام واقعدونهن على ركبنهن وقالوا للإبنة ان تتبول على نفسها.
دى إيه السادية دى؟ يعنى دول مالهمش أهل يخافوا يتعمل فيهم كده؟ دى دولى قانون دى؟
لو كانوا بيعرفوا يقروا كنت قلت دول جاتلهم الفكرة من قصيدة نزار – لكن يبدو إنهم مش بحاجة إلى من يعطيهم أفكار عظيمة فى السادية – هما جاهزين كده

قال لى زميل منذ ايام كيف أنه يفخر بكل ما تقوم به ادارة بوش. وعندما قلت له رأيى رد على ببساطة : “نعم اميركا امبراطورية إمبرياله. الرئيس بوش فقط استخدم حقه الطبيعى كما لم يفعل العديد من الرؤساءالآخرين وهو الحق فى أن يكون رئيسا إمبرياليا وليس هناك ما يعيب فى ذلك.
لا بد لي ان اعترف بأنني دهشت. الامبرياليه الديمقراطيه – بدت لى تناقضية مثل ‘الديموقراطية الوحيدة في الشرق الأوسط’ التي تمارس حقها فى أن تكون نظاما عنصريا ولكنها لا تزال ديمقراطية . أو مثل وجود الديمقراطيه ولكن بدون حقوق الانسان.
فرحت ابحث عن تعبير الامبرياليه الديموقراطية. لا شيء. ولكن البعض حاول تعريفه : فهي “قبول حق الشعب في التصويت لاختيار أي حزب طالما انه موالى للغرب”.
اعتقد أن الامبرياليه الديمقراطيه تذهب كذلك إلى أبعد من ذلك وهو ديمقراطيه النخبه المتحزبة ضد الجماهير. بل ومحاربة الاخرين الذين يعتبرون فى نظرهم غير ديمقراطيين. ومن حق اختيار النخبة أن تحكم الجماهير. ومن حق الجماهير أن يتبع النخبة
شىء محزن أن نعيد تفسير كلمة الديمقراطية حتى تتوافق مع الإمبريالية .

A colleague of mine told me a few days how ‘proud’ he was of what the Bush administration is doing. When I told him what I really think of Bush, he simply said: “American is an Empire. Bush is the President. Many other presidents could have done that, but it is only he who exercised his rights to be an Imperial President. This is an Imperial Democracy and nothing is wrong with that.”
I must admit that I was taken aback. An imperial democracy sounded to me like ‘the only democracy in the Middle East’ which exercises its ‘right’ to be an apartheid system. Or like having a democracy but with no human rights.
I looked up the term. Imperial Democracy. No such thing. And yet some have attempted to define it: It is “accepting the right of people to vote for any party they choose, so long as it’s pro-western.”
I think Imperial Democracy goes beyond that: it is the democracy of the elite few against the masses. It is going to war only with others who are deemed ‘non-democracies’. It is the right of the elite to choose who will govern the masses. And it is the right of the masses to follow.
I also found Arundhati Roy speaking about it. Here is what she said and how she explained it:

Not one item in the TV news about it. Not one.

These days, we fall with machineguns. Just like that. In the heart of Baghdad, a group of 9 children were playing football and according to eyewitnesses, a car stopped nearby and machinegunned the children and they all fell down. [link]

وكمان خبر تانى فى نفس الأسبوع إن فتاة عمرها عشرين سنة هربت من أهلها فأصدرت المحكمة الجزئية بمكة المكرمة حكما بالسجن لمدة 6 أشهر و60 جلدة عليها وكانت البنت اعترفت بهروبها من منزل ذويها “تحت تأثير ضغوط كانت تواجهها داخل المنزل”. وتم تحويل الفتاة إلى دار رعاية الفتيات بمكة لقضاء مدة محكوميتها – وصلة - يعنى لا حد سألها هربت ليه ولا كانت بتعانى من إيه ولا أى حاجة – المهم إنها هربت وخلاص فلازم تتأدب.
أهى دى أولويات الوطن وإلا بلاش – بلا فلسطين بلا عراق بلا سودان بلا زفت. إحنا فاضيين؟

Jeremy Scahill, an investigative journalist and author of Blackwater: The Rise of the World’s Most Powerful Mercenary Army was on Democracy Now discussing his book. According to his definition:
“Blackwater is the elite Praetorian Guard for the ‘global war on terror,’ with its own military base, a fleet of twenty aircraft, and 20,000 private contractors at the ready. Run by a multimillionaire Christian conservative who bankrolls President Bush and his allies, its forces are capable of overthrowing governments.”
And as background history, he explains:
Blackwater was founded — it was actually incorporated in late 1996 and really started to build up its operations in 1997. Originally, it was a 5,000-acre plot near the Great Dismal Swamp of North Carolina, and the personal private fortune of its founder, Erik Prince. He’s believed to be, if not the wealthiest, one of the wealthiest people ever to serve in the elite US Navy Seals.
When asked about under what laws do they operate, Scahill responded:
Donald Rumsfeld in February of 2006 classified contractors as an official part of the US total force, making up an effective part of the US war machine. … At the same time, Blackwater, since 2004, has been lobbying against having its forces placed under the Uniform Code of Military Justice, commonly known as the court-martial system. So Blackwater is essentially saying, “We’re above the law. We can’t be prosecuted in military courts. We can’t be sued in civilian courts.”
He adds
There is no effective law that governs these mercenary forces in Iraq.
Technically, the law of the land is something called the Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act — it’s a mouthful — that was passed in 2000, that said that anyone, any contractor working for or accompanying the armed forces could be subjected to prosecution under US law for crimes committed on the battlefield. Now, one of the major flaws of that … is that Blackwater, for instance, isn’t working for the military. It has a State Department contract in Iraq. So it’s not technically working under the Department of Defense. So it could argue it’s not really subjected to that law. Blackwater has been paid since June of 2004 $750 million by the State Department alone. That’s just one of Blackwater’s contracts.

National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI’s has just published his book Second Chance: Three Presidents and the Crisis of American Superpower. The book is basically an analysis of how the past three presidents missed the chance to create a true American superpower after the Cold War ended. It offers also a scathing indictment of the curent Bush’s ‘catastrophic policies’. He writes:
“Though in some dimensions, such as the military, American power may be greater in 2006 than in 1991, the country’s capacity to mobilize, inspire, point in a shared direction and thus shape global realities has significantly declined. Fifteen years after its coronation as global leader, America is becoming a fearful and lonely democracy in a politically antagonistic world.”
